Track Types
Turbo Play supports many track types. Some of them share common features, some of them have their unique features (which can be confingured using the Track Manager).
Turbo Play currenty supports the following types:
- Audio tracks
- Midi tracks
- Video tracks
- Light tracks
- Automation tracks
- Container Tracks
- Mixer tracks
Unique Features
All tracks have the following features:
- Track Name
- Track Description
- Color
- Moving and duplicating features.
- The ability to lock the track in place so it is always visible.
In addition, all tracks can be imported from /exported to XML files.
Audio Track
The audio track contains audio data in either 32-bit PCM or 64-bit PCM in any sample rate. In addition to the common features, it offers:
- A volume mixer.
- The ability to edit with the Turbo Play Audio Editor or to use Audio Effects.
- The ability to add or manipulate automation curves.
- The ability to add or manipulate lyrics.
- The ability to group/ungroup with other audio tracks, to form one single multichannel (stereo or else) audio track. (Use the Alt+G/Shift+G keyboard shortcuts from the Track Manager). In that case, the Audio Editor can edit all the joined tracks at once.
- The ability to manipulate parts and ghost parts.
- The ability to export to audio files.
- The ability to connect from and to other audio sources in the Visual Linker or with other automatic ways (like the Quick Linker or the VST drag & drop in the Track Manager). Resampling is done automatically.
- The ability to perform mixer operations in the track input or output, like Mute, Solo, Monitor, Takes and Runtime Audio Effects.
- The ability to undo/redo per track.
- The ability to store the actual audio files using 2 methods:
- The ability to work with the Erase, Split, Join, Magnify and Preview tools.
- The ability to select how recording will affect the existing track in 4 modes:
- Mode 0 - The recording will overwrite existing parts and create new parts when they do not exist.
- Mode 1 - The recording will mix existing parts with the new recording data and create new parts when they do not exist.
- Mode 2 - The recording will create a new part. Existing parts will be left untouched.
- Mode 3 - The recording will create a new take. Existing parts and takes will be left untouched.
Midi Track
The midi track contains midi data. In addition to the common features, it offers:
- A volume mixer.
- The ability to edit with the Turbo Play Pianoroll Editor or the Turbo Play Score Editor.
- The ability, if it is a byzantine track, to edit with the Turbo Play Byzantine Editor.
- The ability to add or manipulate automation curves.
- The ability to add or manipulate lyrics.
- The ability to group/ungroup with other midi tracks, to form one single multichannel midi track. (Use the Alt+G/Shift+G keyboard shortcuts from the Track Manager). In that case, the Pianoroll or the Score editor can edit all the tracks at once.
- The ability to manipulate parts and ghost parts.
- The ability to export to midi files.
- The ability to connect from and to other midi sources in the Visual Linker or with other automatic ways (like the Quick Linker or the VST drag & drop in the Track Manager).
- The ability to perform mixer operations in the track input or output, like Mute, Solo, Monitor, Takes and Runtime MIDI Effects.
- The ability to undo/redo per track.
- The ability to manipulate MIDI using the following features:
- Dead channel
- Channel conversion
- Humanization
- The ability to work with the Erase, Split, Join, Magnify and Preview tools.
- The ability to select how recording will affect the existing track in 2 modes:
- Mode 0 - The recording will overwrite existing parts and create new parts when they do not exist.
- Mode 1 - The recording will mix existing parts with the new recording data and create new parts when they do not exist.
Video Track
The video track contains video data. Turbo Play Video support is yet experimental.
Lighting Track
The lighting track contains curves that you can use to communicate with a DMX device. In addition to the common features, it offers:
- A volume mixer (which aplies to the curves inside the track).
- The ability to edit with the Turbo Play Light Editor.
- The ability to add or manipulate lyrics.
- The ability to undo/redo per track.
Automation Track
The automation track contains an automation curve. Although the automation curves inside an audio or midi track can be only applied to that track, the automation track's curve can be applied to anything that has a mixer. In addition to the common features, it offers:
- A volume mixer (which aplies to the curves inside the track).
- The ability to add or manipulate lyrics.
- The ability to undo/redo per track.
- The ability to associate the curve with:
- Any standard master mixer (in/out/midi/audio)
- Any port of any asio device
- Any port of any VST.
- Any audio or midi track.
- Any link.
- Any MIDI controller message.
- The ability to record the curve with any of the above items as input.
Container Track
The container track contains collections of items that belong to other track types. Therefore you can organize midi/audio parts etc inside the container and load them when needed.
In addition to the common features, the container track offers:
- The ability to undo/redo per track.
- The ability to store audio,midi, lighting, automation or video parts (as XML files).

Mixer Track
The mixer track contains mixers for any items that support a mixer. A mixer controls volume,mute state and runtime effects.
In addition to the common features, the mixer track offers:
- The ability to create mixers automatically when a track is inserted or deleted.
- The ability to manipulate volumes and pans.
